An enchantment with history forms the foundation of my work. These pieces explore the physical history of old houses by recalling the pattern and patina of their surfaces. They evoke a sense of life lived there - the accrued residue of feelings, deeds, choices - the archaeology of presence. Authentic historical materials connect me with age-old building tradition. It is a borrowed history, an illusion of faded grandeur, a counter to unbelonging.
